About the event

On Saturday, November 15, 2025, look forward to a guided tour of the National Marian Anderson Museum - Home in South Philadelphia. Built in 1870, the house was purchased by Philadelphia native Marian Anderson's (1897-1993) mother in 1924, at the cusp of Ms. Anderson's international career, renowned for vocal performances especially in opera and spirituals. Conductor Arturo Toscanini said she had a voice “heard once in a hundred years.” The museum also celebrates her role as a humanitarian and civil rights activist. She received many accolades including the Presidential Medal of Freedom under President Kennedy (1963), the Congressional Gold Medal, the National Medal of Arts, 24 honorary doctorate degrees, and numerous recording prizes. “Marian: The Philadelphia Story” features special artifacts, gowns, photos, and more. Address: 762 S. Martin St., Philadelphia. Optional post-tour, pay-your-own, group lunch La Sera Italiana restaurant (BYOB), 1608 South St., Philadelphia. Tour fee: $11 per person.
